Cedar-Walnut Water Main Replacement
Much of the City’s water transmission and distribution system dates back to the 1920’s. Many of these water mains have exceeded their useful life and are in need of replacement. Standard practices call for replacing lines every 50-70 years due to natural degradation from soil chemistry and chlorinated potable water sources. Additionally, they can no longer provide adequate pressures and flow. On an ongoing basis, staff reviews sections of water main that need to be replaced due to age and condition.
This November, the City will install new 8” DIP pipe (abandoning the existing 6” pipe, an upgrade to our system) which is approximately 1,000 LF, including water meters and water services to customers, at the following locations:
- Cedar Street – from Imperial Avenue to Walnut Street
- Walnut Street – from Cedar Street to Main Street
The new water mains will increase system reliability and capacity in order to better serve new and existing customers.
