2019 Civic Day – Part 1 of Civic Day was a success! Thanks to all the ESUSD board and staff, City elected and appointed officials, citywide department heads and their designees for their participation and contribution. Everyone did such a great job that we immediately received four inquiries about the Internship Program. By the way, did you hear? The ESUSD received an award in 2018 from the State of California for the Civic Day program. As of April 16, 2019, ESUSD was selected as a California Democracy School with the “Civic Day” project as the centerpiece of the application. The students seem enthusiastic about this year’s Teen Center Challenge. We’re all excited and looking forward to what they’ll bring to us on Mock Day in May.
LAAFB MOU Update – A direct mail piece was distributed both via online and US mail inviting property owners/managers to participate. Within days, we received eleven interested kind-hearted and generous landlords! Background: In the summer of 2018, we announced the City’s support of LAAFB family housing and invited the community to join us to support our nation’s heroes. For a refresher, read here.
