The combined efforts of Streets Maintenance and Recreation and Parks have made a family very happy. Alison Binder’s grandfather, Peter Binder, was a former City of El Segundo Councilmember and Mayor. Before the Richmond Street sidewalks were reconstructed, Streets Maintenance carefully removed the Binder family’s dedicated bench along with other dedicated benches and stored them in a safe place in the City Maintenance Yard.
Recreation and Parks staff not only informed Alison of the process to relocate her family’s bench to a park, but they also found a new location for all of the benches and restored them before permanently placing them west of Gordon Clubhouse.
Alison Binder has sent the following message to those involved: “It is so exciting that the bench has its new home, just down from the old family house on Eucalyptus. Two generations of Binder kids played there (some of them years before it was even a park). This was a lovely surprise for my aunt, Peter Binder’s daughter. We are very appreciative of the efforts of all who made the placement of the bench possible.”
