Southern California Edison (SCE) rolled out a series of large-scale tower replacements on Vista Del Mar and on Rosecrans Blvd. to improve safety and reliability from September 2017 to February 2018. The work was important to improve reliability and ensure the power grid is supported by up to date technology. The tower replacement required the use of massive cranes spanning multiple lanes of traffic on major arterial roads that are heavily relied upon by South Bay commuters and necessitated road closure. SCE initially requested to close the road for weeks for the works to be completed. However, City Staff worked closely with SCE and other Agencies, notably City of Manhattan Beach, Caltrans, and LA County Sheriff Dept., to ensure not only the work can be completed in a safely and timely manner, but also minimized impacts to commuters and adjacent businesses. The project was completed successfully days ahead of the planned schedule with a minimum amount of road closure and disruption.
