ESFD Responds To Mudslides in Santa Barbara County
|In mid-January, the El Segundo Fire Department responded to the catastrophic mudslides in Santa Barbara County; specifically Montecito, Toro Canyon, Carpentaria and Santa Barbara. The Strike Team consisted of El Segundo Fire department Engine 31, Manhattan Beach Fire Department Engine 22, Torrance Fire Department Engine 93, Redondo Beach Fire Department Engine 62 and West Covina Engine 3.
During the entire duration, El Segundo Engine 31 was tasked to perform primary and secondary searches for survivors in the affected areas. These searches were primarily focused on the residential structures that were immediately impacted by the mudslides; along with roads, drainages, culverts, creeks and even expanding the search to the beach line. These searches were extensive and performed by sifting through the mud and debris.
We were honored to help these communities in their time of need. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and their families.
