Website & Online Permit
City Website Redesign Project
The City of El Segundo website redesign project has begun! The new site will foster improved citywide communications through enhancing public awareness, improving community involvement, promoting and transforming city services, accelerating and streamlining usage of services, and informing and engaging with you, our residential and business communities. The new site will be dynamic and modern, user-friendly, mobile responsive and accessible for individuals with disabilities.
The city kicked off the project by running an online community survey from 2/14 – 3/1 to identify how people were interacting with the current website, as well as, what kind of services they expect the site to provide. The top five crucial services highlighted were online access to forms and applications, ability to fill out and submit forms online, the option to pay fees (e.g., water, parking fines, etc.), ability to report issues and staff contact information.
Using the survey feedback and current site analytics, the project is now currently in the homepage wireframing phase. A homepage wireframe is the blueprint of the new site defines how content is organized and what path a website user will take to find information. The next phase will be visual design—the look and feel of the site. The website development team we will be reaching out to the resident, business, and visitor communities to solicit their feedback on the new design.
We look forward to gathering your feedback and sharing updates with you and so be on the lookout for more news to come!
The City Planning and Building Safety Department (PBS) develops, administers, and enforces standards for land use, design, construction, and housing within city limits, as well as long-range planning in El Segundo. PBS issues a variety of permits and executes many diverse business processes and inspections.
The City’s current permitting system has reached its end of life and the platform is no longer a viable system. With the help of the Information System’s team the PBS department has initiated a project to replace the current system with an up-to-date system that will provide an integrated solution for all involved departments and functions that are an integral part of the entitlement workflow, Building and Safety, Planning Review, Code Enforcement, Public Works, Fire, and Finance.
The project is currently going through the vendor approval phase. After the onsite sandbox test drive was presented by the two finalists in March, the evaluation team met and discussed the results, and submitted their scorecard for the final time. The vendor was selected and our final choice was then presented to the Permitting System Implementation Subcommittee of the Technology Committee on March 22. The presentation was well received, and the project team received verbal support from the Subcommittee. The Subcommittee will report to the Technology Committee at its April 8 meeting regarding their review and support of the vendor selected. We are on target to attain vendor approval by City Council at the next Council meeting on April 16.
