Library WiFi Zone
Through the years, library users’ needs have changed, as technology has become more accessible to the public and online databases and mobile devices have become more popular. Library staff and visitors have come to rely less on the physical reference sources (encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, biographical materials, etc.), and more on digital information. Library staff saw the need to maximize study space on the library’s main floor to better utilize the reference shelf area, and to create a reading and Wi-Fi lounge that will support and enhance access to digital reference materials.
The Public Works Department worked with a construction team to demolish the former reference section area of the library by removing the existing reference shelves, carpet, furniture and window blinds. The area was enhanced by adding electrical floor outlets, charging stations, new carpet, and painting the interior walls. The old furniture was replaced with new high tables and chairs, and inviting, coastal-style lounge chairs.
The Wi-Fi lounge area in the library is now open to the public!
