On November 8, 2016, California voters passed Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA). The intent of Proposition 64 is to legalize the cultivation, possession, and use of marijuana for nonmedical purposes by adults 21 years old and older. In the August/September 2017 newsletter, it was reported that City Staff is considering policies to regulate marijuana related land uses in El Segundo in response to the adoption of the AUMA. After conducting a community survey and discussing this issue with the Planning Commission, the City Council extending the moratorium on marijuana-related land uses until November 2018. In the interim, City Staff will continue to study the issue and monitor policy decisions of neighboring cities. Staff anticipates presenting a permanent policy recommendation for the City Council’s consideration in Fall 2018.
