Long-time City Arborist Mark Trujillo Retires
A City employee since 1985, Mark Trujillo worked his way through the ranks of Park Maintenance Worker, Park Maintenance Lead Worker, Parks Supervisor, to Parks Superintendent. Along the way, Mark became a certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture and Certified Pesticide Applicator and oversaw a budget of nearly $2 million overseeing the Parks Division. The Parks Division is responsible for landscape maintenance on over 60 acres of parks, open spaces, and street medians, athletic field maintenance and preparation for sports activities, and the management of the Urban Forest containing over 6,000 City-owned trees in parks and parkways, among other responsibilities.
Mark is known throughout town by many residents and business owners who he has worked one-on-one with to ensure that their properties adjacent to City parkways and trees are properly maintained, always balancing aesthetics and a love of trees with potential safety hazards. He has a wealth of knowledge about the City of El Segundo and will leave a legacy for many years to come. Mark’s ultimate goal was to leave the City’s landscape and trees in better condition than when he came. Mark has dedicated 32 years to the City of El Segundo and the City is a better place because of him. The City congratulates Mark on his well-deserved retirement!
Celebrate! A Fireworks Spectacular
The City of El Segundo celebrates its centennial this year, and we’re honoring our achievement with the biggest spectacular our community has ever seen! “Celebrate! A Fireworks Spectacular” lights up the skies above El Segundo High School on October 7, 2017, at 7:30 pm. This spectacular show tells the story of our City’s one-hundred-year history in snapshots—from our founding as a Standard Oil company town to our storied tradition of sports and play, from aviation milestones that changed the world, to the next-generation rockets and satellites that streak across the sky.
This show is set to an original orchestral score written by Jason and Nolan Livesay (X-Men, Maze Runner) and features massive pyrotechnics, colorful lighting, dazzling special effects, and immersive animations projected onto the El Segundo High School bell tower. Join us starting at 3:00 pm for a free concert in Library Park, and then stay around for the celebration of a century: “Celebrate! A Fireworks Spectacular!”
