Happy Retirement, Carol!
Carol Craft, Senior Library Assistant is retiring at the end of the year. Carol began her library career with us in December of 1988 and has worked in the Children’s Division since then, first as a Library Clerk and later as a Library Assistant.
Prior to working at the library, Carol thought she would like to be a teacher and worked at a daycare center while attending college. Although that experience did not lead to a career in teaching, it turned out to be an experience she needed to become the Wednesday morning Preschool Storytime lady, a job that she has enjoyed for more than 20 years.
If you’ve wondered who does the amazing children’s bulletin boards, that’s Carol. She also spends time at our children’s information desk, does our children’s calendars, summer reading materials, posters and most of the displays as well as many other duties that help keep the library running.
We’re not sure who will stuff the zillions of summer reading grab bags next summer while Carol is enjoying her retirement but we wish her all the best as she enjoys her pets, gardening, genealogy, and craft projects.
Thank you, Carol, for your many years of valued service!
An example of Carol’s Outstanding Customer Service at the Library!
“Dear Sindee Pickens,
My name is Joanne Mac. I have gone to the El Segundo library during my lunch hour to check out books for my kids several times, and I am very happy with the service at the library. Everyone is very nice and helpful. However, I have observed outstanding service from one employee there, who I would like to write to you about.
Her name is Carol Craft (Children’s division). She is very friendly and professional, and always offers help to people at the library. She always goes the extra mile to help children and parents. I am one of those fortunate enough to be helped by her.
I had a long list of books which I wanted to find during my lunch hour. Without Carol, it would have been impossible for me to get it done. Even though she was busy helping people before me, she made sure I had enough information to look around while waiting for help. She is very knowledgeable and fast, so my wait was never long.
I was very impressed with the way she managed her tasks as well as her librarian knowledge. I would say she is a live encyclopedia I could retrieve all the answers I needed from quickly. Every title I gave her, she could tell me its location. With her help, I was able to get all the books my sons requested me that day. They were very pleased, and I would like to thank Carol for that.
I don’t know what kind of recognition the library has for employees that have done a tremendous job. If there is an award for customer service, please present it to her. She really deserves it with her kindness and hard work.
